Fetish Friday: Ghosts and the Paranormal

Fetish Friday: Ghosts and the Paranormal

Kink is used to describe the ‘non-conventional’ practises a person takes part in or the fantasies they have, while fetish explains the object of their sexual fantasies (whether it’s a living being or an inanimate object). When considering these two definitions, both are often perceived as off-limits from the viewpoint of prescribed societal norms.

Fortunately, the world has become increasingly sex-positive over the years and, consequently, many fetishes and kinks are now considered ‘normal.’ Yet, not every fetish (or fetishes) that a person has is always understood, thanks to varying subcultures that often branch from a single fetish or kink. This can leave outsiders uncertain of what it actually involves.

Today, we’re delving into the topic of spectrophilia and ghost sex to help remove the misunderstandings and uncertainties surrounding the topic. We hope that it will give you a better idea of what it’s like to experience this fetish and what someone who takes part in it is into.

What is spectrophilia?

A sexual attraction to or experiencing sexual arousal from ghosts, ‘spectrophilia’ can also describe the sexual encounters that some people claim to have had with the spirit world. These paranormal experiences can occur through varying forms, including (but not limited to) a séance, demonic possession, or even chance interactions. These encounters date back thousands of years, with many cultural folklores involving sexual relations between spirits and humans; Arabic, Celtic, Greek, and Hindu are just some.

Common misconceptions

While the term ‘spectrophilia’ refers to a sexual attraction to the paranormal, having sex with a ghost does not necessarily make someone a spectrophiliac. Indeed, even if someone summons the dead (for example, through a séance), it does not mean that the person intends to engage with the spirit sexually.

According to some — while this has no scientific backing — an incubus is a demon that can take the form of a human with a penis, seducing folks with uteruses to impregnate them with its semen.

How to talk about it with your partner

séance

For those who experience spectrophilia and a draw to the paranormal, including those who want to engage in sex with a ghost, it’s important to talk to your partner about your fetish. It has been said that summoning spirits can cause an array of dilemmas, such as the ghost remaining attached to the summoner or calling in evil spirits, including the demons noted above. Be clear with your partner about what you expect to get out of it and any risks that could affect them.

Things to try

While the nature of the sexual encounter, presumably, is in the hands of the spirit, there are various things to attempt to summon the ghost. Hosting a séance to contact the spirit world is quite common, as is verbalizing your intentions in a location that is known to be haunted. Spells and visualization (not necessarily simultaneously) can call in both ghosts and demons.

Are there risks to consider?

As we mentioned before, there is no scientific evidence suggesting that humans can have sexual interactions with the spirit world. However, by turning to folklore, we can see that there may be potential risks involved, including pregnancy by a demon, ghosts clinging to you for long periods (sometimes, even indefinitely), possession, and paranormal activity that results in danger and physical harm being brought on you and those closest to you.

How can I learn more?

The internet and libraries are the best places to find free, accessible information. Whether you’re seeking stories from folks’ first-hand experiences, looking for ways to rid yourself of a spirit you called in who refuses to leave, or any other concern or inquiry regarding having sex with a ghost, there are written works on the topic. Before you delve into summoning spirits for a sexual interaction, we highly recommend doing further research!

We hope you now have a deeper understanding of what spectrophilia and ghost sex are, and what they entail. Should the topic come up in future conversations, you will feel more open to speaking about it confidently and knowledgeably. Whether it’s understanding the fetish from someone who engages in it themselves or educating another person who may be closed off to the idea of it, we feel that we have done our job to help make the world a more sexually inclusive place.

Have you ever had ghost sex before? Would you be curious as to what it would be like to experience a paranormal sexual experience in the future (either initiating one through a séance or by a chance encounter)? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
