Fetish Friday: Scat Play

Fetish Friday: Scat Play

A fetish defines the object of one’s sexual fantasies of a living being or an inanimate object, while kinks are the ‘non-conventional’ practices a person takes part in (or fantasizes about). When looking at either definition, both are typically considered to diverge from mainstream societal norms.

However, recent years have seen the world become progressively sex-positive. Consequently, many fetishes and kinks are considered more ‘acceptable.’ Still, not every fetish (or fetishes) that a person has is understood. In part, this is due to diverse subcultures that can branch from a single fetish or kink, which can leave outsiders uncertain of what it entails.

Today, we’ve decided to speak about coprophilia (and elements related to scat play) to help remove any misperceptions and uncertainties on the topic. We hope that it will give you a better idea of what it’s like to experience this fetish and kink, as well as what someone who takes part in it might be into.

What is scat play (and coprophilia)?

Scat play refers to any sexual activity that incorporates scat or feces (poop). Often, this involves defecating on a sexual partner or getting pooped on for the purpose of sexual pleasure and gratification.

Folks who fantasize about and take pleasure in scat play have what is called “coprophilia” and can sometimes be referred to as “scatophiliacs.”

Common misconceptions

While there are many misconceptions about scat play, some of the main ones we have heard are that:

  • Scat play is dangerous. While bacteria can spread, there are preventative measures to avoid infection both during and after play (more on that below).

  • Scatophiliacs like to eat feces. While this is true for some people, it isn’t for all.

  • Only people with coprophilia enjoy scat play. Anyone can try it out without considering themselves “scatophiliac.”

How to talk about it with your partner

If you are inclined to try something new sexually, talk about your kinks and fetishes with your partner. In terms of scat play, be clear from the beginning when you intend to be the person defecating on your partner, or if you rather be the one getting pooped on. Discuss the risks that might potentially be involved, how your partner can be a part of your fantasy, and be open to answering any questions that may come up throughout the discussion.

Things to try

coprophilia

Beginners may want to ease into scat play by defecating into their own hands or having their partner defecate into their hands. Get used to the sensations involved with scat to become more comfortable. Folks can then move into defecating or being defecated on by their partner, having sex overtop their feces while on waterproof sheets, and even experimenting with anal sex (while feces is in or around the anus) either with a partner’s penis or a sex toy.

Are there risks to consider?

Whenever feces are involved in a sexual act, whether you are defecating on a person or are getting pooped on, you run the risk of bacterial infections. Try to use waterproof sheets or blankets specifically made for sex, like the Liberator Black Label PVC Sheets (get them for 15% off by using the code BETWEENOURTHIGHS at checkout). Otherwise, use a white bleach-safe sheet. After sex, wash away any solid waste with cold water before washing in your laundry machine in the hottest water temperature recommended on the label, along with half a cup of bleach to help disinfect them.

We also highly recommend everyone involved avoid touching their eyes throughout and showering after the sex is done.

How can I learn more?

As always, watching ethical porn is an excellent way to learn more about what scat play can involve and to broaden your ideas about how you can carry out defecation acts yourself (whether as the giver or receiver). As well, both on- and offline communities of folks who are scatophiliac — or who have an interest in scat play — can be an excellent resource to present your questions and concerns to. There are plenty of chatrooms that can be found on the subject, or you can consult with your local sex club to see if they can connect you with like-minded people. This includes days they have set aside for embracing particular kinks and fetishes!

After reading this, we hope you now have a deeper understanding of scat play and coprophilia. The next time the topic comes up in conversation, hopefully, you will feel encouraged to speak about it. Whether it’s learning more about the fetish and kink from someone who practices it first-hand or educating someone who may be closed off to the idea, we feel that we have done our job to help make the world a more sexually inclusive place.
